O year 2022 will be remembered as a powerful moment for the expansion of the Brazilian electrical matrix, with emphasis on the increase in energy supply generated by renewable sources.
According to the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), the Country ended last year with one expansion of 8.23 GW of installed power - The second largest in history and behind only the 9.52 GW that were achieved in 2016.
Between January and December, only wind farms and large solar plants responded, respectively, for 2.92 GW and 2.67 GW of this expansion. It is a volume above that accumulated by other sources – which did not even reach the 1.5 GW mark each.
To the thermoelectric that use fossil fuel were the ones that came closest to reaching this amount, with the contribution of 1.35 GW. Already the biomass thermoelectric plants represented 0.9 GW; while the hydroelectric plants totaled 0.37 GW.
Goal exceeded
O result obtained by solar and wind sources throughout the year, helped Brazil achieve the initial target of expanding its electrical matrix scheduled by ANEEL for 2022, which was 7.62 GW.
This volume was reached and exceeded on December 21st, with the entry into operation of new wind and solar energy plants.
Among the states, Minas Gerais was the one with the biggest increase in generation capacity in 2022, with 1.53 GW installed, with 1.17 GW of solar plants.

In regional terms, the North East stayed with most of the recorded expansion, with 4.51 GW, representing 55% of the total increase in the year. What stands out in the region is the state of Piauí, with an increase of 1.17GW, with 0.33 GW in solar plants.
New plants
This Tuesday (3), the ANEEL released the commercial operation of six photovoltaic plants from the company Vale, in Minas Gerais, totaling 0.23 GW of installed capacity. The approval was given for the AC IV to AC VIII and AC XXII plants, with 39.4 MW each, in the municipality of Jaíba.
A The agency also authorized the entry into operation of the nine generating units at UFV Caldeirão Grande II, which totals 30.9 MW of installed capacity. The complex managed by Ibitu Energia is located in the municipality of the same name, in the interior of the state of Piauí.
