Spin intends to triple production capacity in the coming years

The expectation is that the unit in Sorocaba will produce approximately 750 MW per year

Spin, a manufacturer of fixing structures for solar panels, will triple the production capacity of its factory by 2022. This is what José Luiz Gava, the company's executive director, stated in an exclusive interview with Solar Channel.

Currently, the unit, which changed address and is located in Sorocaba (SP), produces around 250 MW per year. “Our goal is to expand more and more and reach 750 MW. This, consequently, would also double our capacity to generate jobs”, highlighted the executive.

Still according to Gava, the change occurred precisely to improve the logistics and operation of the factory. “We wanted to improve our internal processes and centralize the production of photovoltaic equipment.”

The company, which has existed for 26 years, has been operating in the solar energy market since 2016. In 2017, around 10% of production was dedicated to photovoltaic products. In 2018, it jumped to 25%, in 2019 to 80% and this year it operates with 100% of the line.

“We admit that solar brings great opportunities in Brazil. We thought that if we centralized in a single plant we would have a huge gain in our operation. Now, we will have a completely independent unit to manufacture, assemble and ship components for fixing solar panels throughout the country”, highlighted Gava.

“Throughout our existence, we have acquired a lot of competence in how to do certain things. We were suppliers, for example, to large clients in the Brazilian metallurgical industry, and this gave us know-how so that we could apply this knowledge in the solar market. So, at this moment, with all the expertise we had, we concluded that the photovoltaic sector has a very interesting business perspective”, he emphasized.

Moving to Sorocaba

According to the director of Spin, it took three months, between August and October this year, to build the new unit, which was previously located in Barueri (SP).

In total, more than R$ 600 thousand were invested in the factory, developed in an area of 1,300 m². “Here, we have the capacity to produce any type of steel part. As for the aluminum part, we buy from our suppliers and process the material internally”, he explained.

“Our goal is product integration. The more dispersed our processes are, in terms of engineering and component manufacturing, we gain in procedure and speed, reducing costs while still maintaining the level of quality”, commented the executive.

Gava, who is a mechanical engineer by training, highlighted how important the engineering part is to achieve this level of excellence in services and products. He has 40 years of experience in the sector, working from toolmaker to designer. He has worked, for example, at General Motors and the steel company Villares Metal.

Customer service

For Júlio Tavernaro, commercial manager at Spin, the move to Sorocaba was essential to further optimize customer service. “This enabled us to have a much better manufacturing organization and a space to carry out training for integrators and distributors.”

“In other words, we will achieve other benefits linked to production efficiency. We will have a much cleaner company, which will provide all these commercially-oriented activities in parallel”, concluded Tavernaro.
