The Southeast region of Brazil, formed by the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo, is approaching a historic record for the photovoltaic energy sector.

The location is close to being the first of the five regions in the country to reach the mark of 2 GW of installed solar DG (distributed generation) power.

According to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), the Brazilian Southeast currently has just over 1.97 GW of energy produced from the installation of solar panels in homes, rural areas, companies, commercial establishments and government headquarters. .

Currently, there are around 240.2 thousand UCs (Consumer Units) receiving credits in the region and more than 191.7 thousand photovoltaic plants installed in 1,648 municipalities. The state with the highest installed power is Minas Gerais, with 977.5 MW, followed by São Paulo (681.3 MW); Rio de Janeiro (220.4 MW) and Espírito Santo (96.4 MW).

Among consumption classes, residential is the one that occupies the first position in ANEEL's regional ranking, with 802.8 MW of installed power. In second place is the commercial class, with 720.5 MW, followed by rural, with 285.2 MW, and industrial, with 146 MW.

Other regions

According to ANEEL data, the South region is the closest to the Southeast's solar energy production. Formed by the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Paraná, the location today has 1.22 GW of installed solar power, 127,859 UCs receiving credits and 105,036 thousand plants operating.

Not far behind this, the Northeast appears, with 1.01 GW of installed power, 106,961 UCs receiving credits and more than 78.6 thousand installed plants. The region is made up of the states of Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte and Sergipe. For now, only the Central-West and North regions of the country have not yet reached the 1 GW mark of installed power in solar DG.

The first region – where the states of Goiás, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul are located, in addition to the Federal District – has 927.5 MW, with 83,384 UCs receiving credits and 65,315 plants in operation. The North region currently has 292.8 MW of installed power of photovoltaic energy produced in the states of Tocantins, Pará, Amapá, Roraima, Amazonas, Acre and Rondônia. The location still has 28,061 UCs receiving credits and 24,605 solar plants installed.

Holy Spirit

According to data from ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), the state of Espírito Santo reached 7,037 operational connections of distributed solar generation.

In total, more than 8 thousand consumers already have photovoltaic systems installed on small properties in the 78 municipalities that make up the Espírito Santo territory.

According to ABSOLAR, Espírito Santo alone currently accounts for 1.8% of Brazil's total distributed solar energy park, being eighteenth in the entity's national ranking.  Minas Gerais tops the list, with 81,684 operational connections, around 18.1% of the country's entire distributed solar energy park.
