Electric mobility will gain more and more space in Teresina, capital of Piauí. This is because the city hall and Grupo Equatorial Energia signed a partnership to install a charging station and an accommodation station for bicycles and EVs (electric vehicles) in the city.

The project, which is scheduled to open in November this year, includes investment from nine other companies in the electricity sector, represented by Global Participações em Energia. In total, the value of the program across five states is approximately R$ 19 million.

“The initiative is part of our research and development program, as well as the Equatorial Group's sustainability and energy efficiency policy,” said Maurício Velloso, president of Equatorial Piauí.

“Through the project, we intend to promote the sustainable use of energy associated with means of transport, encourage the reduction of environmental impacts caused by fossil fuels and promote the quality of life of the community through the use of equipment available for leisure”, highlighted Velloso .

The agreement signing ceremony was held this Wednesday morning (26) at the City Palace

“It is a moment of thanks to Equatorial Energia for choosing Teresina to start this technological innovation project. The municipality has open arms for companies looking to invest in the capital. We want to move further and further towards benefiting the city's GDP with social actions, promoting sustainable initiatives, such as the electric mobility project”, commented the mayor of Teresina, Dr. Pessoa.

About the project

The charging station and station for electric bicycles will be installed by Equatorial in Parque da Cidadania. The objective is to evaluate the use of EVs by the community in light of the current urban mobility scenario.

To this end, according to the company, ten electric bicycles will be made available for use by the population. In addition, an electric car will be donated and will be the responsibility of the public authorities for police patrols on site.

Another point highlighted is that the contribution will also take the project to the other Equatorial Energia distributors in Maranhão, Pará and Alagoas, and also to the UFMS Campus, in Campo Grande (MS).
