With the theme "Renewable energy 24/7", O The smarter E Europe 2023 has more than 2,450 exhibitors and Expectation of receiving more than 85 thousand visitors until Friday (16).

In total, they are 180,000 m², divided into 17 pavilions (A1-A6, B0-B6, C1-C4), and a Outdoor area, sufficient spaces for visitors to discover innovative products and solutions.

During the three days of the fair, The smarter E Europe offers a opportunity to learn about the latest trends, technologies and business models and, at the same time, establish renewable energy sector contacts.

More exhibition space for technologies and trends

Photovoltaic energy plays a fundamental role in this: for the first time in history, in 2022, photovoltaic energy capacity installed worldwide surpassed the first terawatt milestone. As the world's leading trade fair for the solar sector, Intersolar Europe has expanded its exhibition space to 111,500 m², reflecting the sector's growth.

Intersolar Europe attracts an international specialist audience with its comprehensive framework program. At the “PV Manufacturing Stage” (hall A2, stand A2.409), for example, experts will provide information on the highlights of photovoltaic production.

Additionally, SolarPower Europe, the European industry association, will present its exclusive report “Global Market Outlook for Solar Power 2023-2027” at the Intersolar Europe Conference (June 13 and 14 at the Munich International Congress Center).

“Our report shows that the European market is growing at an impressive rate, even faster than many other regions of the world. In it, we analyze today’s most prosperous markets”, says Michael Schmela, executive consultant at SolarPower Europe.

Around 650 exhibitors present storage systems

One of the keys to a secure and stable 24/7 supply based on renewable energy is storage batteries, as they can offer flexibility to the electricity grid.

“In Germany, most of this flexibility is found in more than 650,000 household batteries, but more and more companies are installing industrial batteries and there are large battery storage systems that provide constant backup for our grids,” says Jan Figgener, head of department of Network Integration and Storage System Technology at the Technical University of Aachen (RWTH Aachen).

The growth of ees Europe highlights the importance of energy storage: compared to the previous year, the trade fair more than doubled its usable area and the number of exhibitors. This year, more than 650 exhibitors are presenting their products on more than 45,000 m² in five pavilions and in the outdoor area.

New technologies for energy and mobility transition

With the energy and mobility transition, the supply of electromobility and charging infrastructure is growing. Power2Drive Europe provides a comprehensive overview on this.

At the Power2Drive Forum (hall B6, stand B6.650), scientists and experts, manufacturers, distributors, start-ups and professional users give an insight into the latest topics and technologies.

Furthermore, Power2Drive Europe is focusing on the “Vehicle to Home/Building” (V2H/V2B) theme: “Electromobility is the cornerstone for the successful transformation of transport. In Germany alone, there will be more than one million electric vehicles by 2022.”

“These vehicles already have 55 GWh of storage capacity, i.e. more than all of Germany's pumped hydro plants combined,” says Dr. Ing. Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Infineon Technologies AG and former President of the Board of Directors of Volkswagen AG.

In the outdoor event area, visitors can find fleet charging solutions and smart solutions to combine cost-effective electricity generation from renewable energy with sustainable mobility, for example through solar parking lots. To give fair visitors the opportunity to experience electromobility first-hand, the range of vehicle test drives has also been expanded.

Integrated renewable energy system

To ensure a reliable supply of renewable energy 24 hours a day, the electricity grid of the future must be digital, flexible and inclusive.

“Moving to a verifiable system that combines renewable energy generation with hourly consumption can help accelerate grid decarbonization, reduce costs, increase the accuracy of CO2 emissions reporting and facilitate system flexibility,” it says Bruce Douglas, director of business and communications at European electricity industry association Eurelectric.

The themes of EM-Power Europe 2023 are the modernization of the power grid towards the smart grid, the integration of prosumers, electromobility and heating energy systems into a comprehensive renewable energy system, and the efficient use of renewable resources 24 hours a day . This year, there are 40% more exhibitors than last year, showcasing products and solutions for the new world of energy.
