A Sun Mobi, a subscription solar energy company, announced the investment of R$ 23 million in implementing a photovoltaic plant with 5 MW capacity in the municipality of Taubaté (SP), in the Paraíba Valley.

The company, which already operates two other energy production units in Porto Feliz and Araçoiaba da Serra, aims to expand its operations in the state of São Paulo. The project will supply energy to commercial and residential properties.

The project has the support of InvestSP advisory, which had already provided support in the implementation of the Porto Feliz plant and this time advised the company in locating a suitable area for the energy generation unit in Taubaté.

Among the beneficiaries are municipalities such as Guarulhos and São José dos Campos, in the Paraíba Valley. In total, 28 cities in the state will be served in EDP São Paulo concession area.

According to the company, the project should begin operating in the second half of this year. The construction of the Taubaté unit received contribution from GET Energy Trading, an investing partner of Sun Mobi, and is expected to generate 125 jobs in its operation.

“São Paulo has a huge potential for solar energy generation to be explored”, says Rui Gomes Junior, president of InvestSP. “We will work to ensure that green energy projects become increasingly relevant and contribute to the economic growth of the São Paulo economy”, he concludes.

According to the mayor of Taubaté, José Antônio Saud, Sun Mobi is well received in the city, “for bringing access to clean energy to so many who want a more sustainable energy system. This is very positive for the people of Taubate and for our city’s economy”, he highlights.

For Guilherme Susteras, partner at Sun Mobi, in addition to the economic benefits, the construction of the new plant will bring great environmental gains to the region. “Over an operating horizon of 30 years and with a generation of 658 thousand kWh, emissions of 82.7 thousand tons of CO2 will be avoided, which is equivalent to around 507 thousand trees planted”, he explains.
