Floating PV plant promotes water pumping for the community in BA

180 thousand liters of water are pumped per day, for consumption, hygiene and cultivation of local agriculture

The Junco community, located in the municipality of Casa Nova (BA), now receives fresh water pumped through a floating photovoltaic system measuring 10 meters by 13 meters, installed in the Sobradinho dam, located five kilometers from the region.

O Agua Viva Institute, responsible for the project, stated that in total there are 33 330 W modules, in addition to a 15 hp pump and an inverter. The floating plant, anchored 700 meters from the bank of the reservoir, was designed to pump water to 120 families living in the community.

According to the institute, 180 thousand liters of water are pumped per day, for consumption, hygiene and local agricultural cultivation, with each family receiving around 1.2 thousand liters.

Before the construction of the photovoltaic plant, the region did not have access to fresh water, even though it was close to a reservoir. Furthermore, the community also does not have electricity.

Water is also available for irrigation of small vegetable gardens. Most families grow cassava, which is very common in the region and is in short supply due to the lack of rain.

“Water is being pumped from the Sobrinho dam to the community. The families did not have water for their crops and now they will have a much better quality of life due to a small solar system like this installed”, highlighted Antônio Carlos Torres, founder of the Fortlev group, the company that supplied the equipment.

The equipment pumps water through the main pipeline, through 6,300 meters of PVC piping, with a diameter of 125 millimeters. The integrator company that carried out the first installation was Nordeste Solar. Subsequently, due to changes in configurations, the company Athos Energia Solar carried out the new process.
