Recent advances in nuclear fusion research are renewing the prospects for the commercial viability of this technology. Considered one of the most promising frontiers of clean energy, fusion is back at the center of discussions following significant experimental results recorded in recent years.

According to Hudson Mendonça, CEO of the Energy Summit, nuclear fusion represents a process with high energy potential. "Nuclear fusion involves two small atoms fusing together and generating a massive amount of energy," he states. The principle is similar to what occurs inside the Sun, where atomic nuclei combine, releasing large amounts of energy.

One of the recent milestones cited by Mendonça occurred about three years ago, when an experiment achieved an unprecedented result. "In 2023, it was the first time that more energy was generated than consumed," he points out. This advancement is considered significant for the evolution of technology towards practical application.

Despite the technical challenges and costs involved, scientific progress has accelerated the interest of companies and governments in nuclear fusion as a long-term alternative for energy generation. The possibility of producing electricity on a large scale, with low carbon emissions and high efficiency, puts the technology on the radar for strategic investments.

In the context of the energy sector, the eventual commercialization of nuclear fusion could represent a structural change in the global energy matrix, with direct impacts on production chains, technological innovation, and business models. The evolution of the coming years will be crucial in determining the pace of adoption of this solution.
