The Brazilian electricity sector is accelerating its expansion to meet increased consumption and the arrival of new digital loads. Modernizing power lines, substations, and distribution networks is essential to ensuring a stable power supply in the country. However, there is a structural imbalance in this movement, where significant investments in physical infrastructure coexist with an architecture that does not evolve at the same pace. The energy industry collects large volumes of information through sensors distributed across urban and industrial areas, but this data loses practical utility when it remains isolated on outdated platforms without integration. Investing billions in equipment without updating the applications that support the service reduces the return on investment and compromises daily network control. The real gain lies in converting this volume of data into consistent operational results. The digital influence on energy distribution: Data centers dedicated to artificial intelligence and other computationally intensive applications increase energy consumption and drive demand for new connections. Research conducted by PowerLines indicates that private utilities in the United States plan to invest at least $1,4 trillion by 2030, and most cite data centers as a major driver of this growth. In Brazil, this pressure is reflected in official cargo projections and increases the demands for the coming years. The country occupies a strategic position in this scenario due to its clean energy matrix, but transforming this potential into installed capacity requires evaluating new connections from the perspective of regional constraints, network capacity, asset conditions, and real-time operational impacts. The sector's growth requires building a structure capable of correlating massive volumes of information and converting that data into actionable decisions. Artificial intelligence can accelerate this process, but it faces limitations in a fragmented ecosystem. An algorithm can identify an anomaly in a transformer, but it may not have access to the maintenance history of that asset to decide whether a shutdown is necessary, since this data resides in separate systems that do not communicate with each other. A shift in perspective on infrastructure: The development of the electricity sector has always been associated with civil works, transformers, lines, and field equipment, relegating the digital layer to a secondary role. These factors remain indispensable, but the ability to operate this infrastructure increasingly depends on the integrated digital layer. Treating technology as a secondary support resource compromises the quality of decisions and generates waste that accumulates over time. Modernizing the digital layer involves redesigning architectures to convert telemetry into predictive actions, enabling the identification of the relationship between a technical event, the condition of a piece of equipment, and its history, before a failure occurs. With the energy transition and the advancement of intensive computing, the resilience of the electricity sector will be determined by the combination of the robustness of the physical infrastructure and the ability of the software to make strategic decisions. Physical expansion will remain essential, but its ability to keep up with new demands will also depend on the quality of the digital infrastructure that supports it. It is at this point that the code ceases to be merely a support tool and becomes integrated into the very infrastructure of the electricity sector.
