Cuts in renewable energy generation in Brazil fell to 10,2% of total production in January, down from 11,5% in December, according to a report released by Itaú BBA.
The study also pointed to an increase in the possibility of compensating generators for energy lost due to operational restrictions.
The cuts determined by the ONS (National Electric System Operator), known as “curtailments”, impacted 9,3% of wind generation in January, compared to 9,5% in the previous month.
For solar energy, the impact was greater, but showed a significant improvement, falling from 17,8% in December to 12% in January.
Power generation cuts
In recent months, solar and wind power generators have been recording million-dollar losses in their businesses due to interruptions in energy production due to limitations imposed on the transmission network.
Part of these losses have been eligible for compensation, but there is a legal impasse between the generators and the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) on the amounts to be compensated.
The Itaú BBA report indicated that last month there was a reduction in the impact of the cuts for generators such as Equatorial, CPFL, Eneva and Alupar. On the other hand, Auren, Engie and Serena were the companies identified by the bank as the most affected by the curtailments.
