Ana Flávia Nogueira, professor at the Chemistry Institute of Unicamp (State University of Campinas), has just been appointed member of CT-Energ (Energy Sector Fund Management Committee), linked to MCTI (Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation)
Composed of experts in the field, CT-Energ is responsible for defining the fund's annual investment plans for research, development, and innovation in the Brazilian electricity sector, with a special focus on energy efficiency and alternative energy sources.
With a two-year term, Ana Flávia takes on the role with the mission of contributing her academic and management experience. She currently also directs Cine (Center for Innovation in New Energies), based at Unicamp—a research center created through a public-private partnership.
O Filmmaking stands out for the development of technologies for energy generation and storage, including perovskite batteries and solar panels, a promising alternative because it is based on cheaper and more abundant materials in Brazil.
"Today we have a battery manufacturing laboratory and have made significant progress in prototyping solar panels that use perovskite [a cheaper material based on domestic inputs]," said the professor, giving an example of one of the institute's projects.
According to the professional, one of the main objectives at the head of CT-Energ will be to stimulate the development of national technologies, reducing dependence on imported components, which, according to her, still hinders innovation in the energy sector Brazilian.
It also believes that improving infrastructure and modernizing regulations are fundamental measures to accelerate the country's energy transition.
Ana Flávia also highlights the potential for producing clean hydrogen from biomass, especially from agribusiness waste, as an area she intends to strengthen within the university itself, through new projects and partnerships.
