Tokio Marine has launched a service that includes cleaning and guaranteed disposal of photovoltaic panels when purchasing products from the RG Placa Solar and Empresarial lines. The insurer is responsible for the maintenance of solar equipment, as well as ensuring that the waste generated is disposed of correctly. When purchasing the service, the client will have access to the following services: cleaning of solar panels; identification of faults (hot spots and damaged panels); identification of microcracks, fissures or surface damage; ecological disposal (debris, construction waste, furniture, appliances, document boxes, uniforms) and environmental consultancy. According to Sidney Cezarino, director of Property Insurance at Tokio Marine, the company is aware of business opportunities in the renewable energy sector. “This launch, in addition to showing how much we are aware of the business potential of the renewable energy market, responds to relevant points that are under debate, such as the environmental problem caused by the disposal of solar panels,” said the executive in a statement. "This is an important point, since equipment – or parts of it – that will no longer be used need to be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. Our service solves this issue by providing reverse logistics for solar panels," he added. The photovoltaic market continues to grow in the country, despite a challenging first half of the year due to reduced sales. However, the market has picked up again in recent months, which leaves entrepreneurs optimistic. At the beginning of October, solar energy totaled 34,3 GW of power in Brazil, including distributed and centralized generation. According to ABSOLAR (Brazilian Solar Energy Association), the source is already the second most important in the country, representing 15,6% of the electrical matrix.
