A UCB Power announced the acquisition of a patent and customer base from EP Telecom, a company that provides protection solutions against theft and theft of equipment. With one innovative technology for resining stationary batteries and cables, the product significantly reduces theft on telecommunications sites and energy projects.

“With the growth of the energy storage market, we have heard from partners and customers about increasing concerns about theft and vandalism of power and backup systems. EP Telecom has already proven to have a effective solution for these cases, acting both in the prevention and recovery of battery theft”, Stated George Fernandes, CEO of UCB Power.

“Despite historically being focused on the Telecom market, EP Telecom's shielding solution has applications in other segments, such as energy market, for isolated systems, for example”, he added.

The acquired patent technology performs the coupling, shielding and potting batteries, cables and other items, in addition to the online tracking and monitoring system, with national coverage.

This system helps to locate stolen parts and control replacement and maintenance needs, providing greater security and operational efficiency – reducing battery and cable theft events and generating savings in replacement costs for telephone operators and tower operators, who are currently facing a annual rate of theft and vandalism of around 20% on its sites. The solution already tested in the main companies in the sector reduces this percentage to 2%.

The company has been evaluating companies that offer complementary services and products to its current portfolio – such as O&M (Operation and Maintenance), management and monitoring and other electronic components that make up an energy storage and recycling system.

According to Andrea Terranova, CFO of UCB Power, the acquisition of EP Telecom will also meet demand in new geographies, continuing the international expansion process started with the opening of its branch in France at the end of last year.

More Details

The acquisition value remains confidential due to a confidentiality agreement between the parties involved. As mentioned, the operation involves the purchase of technology and a customer base, made up mainly of telecommunications service companies and towers (operators of telecommunications towers). The application of the solution can also be expanded to the energy sector, as it allows georeferencing and monitoring of remote equipment.

According to George Fernandes, this strategic acquisition aims to expand the range of solutions offered by the company, with the creation of USAFETY, its new brand, specializing in anti-vandalism security.

In addition to USAFETY, the company already operates with three other brands: Unipower (in the stationary battery segment), U-Solutions (portable batteries for cell phones and notebooks and storage systems) and U-Move (batteries for mobility).
