The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has approved 14 strategic projects, including solar power plants and battery storage systems, for the Legal Amazon. These initiatives are part of Public Call No. 1/2024, with a total investment of R$829 million, of which R$510 million will be provided by the federal program.

The proposals were submitted by Eletrobras, Aggreko, Oliveira Energia, and Roraima Energia, and will be developed in partnership with Eletrobras. The projects will directly benefit 652 people in 36 locations, promoting savings, stable energy supplies, and reduced pollutant emissions.

“We are taking an important step towards reducing dependence on diesel and expanding the use of clean sources in operating plants,” said Gustavo Ataide, National Secretary for Energy Transition at the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

With a focus on efficiency, approximately 90% of the funds will be allocated to the installation of photovoltaic plants and batteries in municipalities such as Tefé, Tabatinga, and Benjamin Constant (AM). Some of the funds will also serve communities in Roraima, such as Santa Maria do Boiaçu and Vila Caicubi, with structural power generation solutions.

In addition to the plants, the package includes modernizing public lighting in cities like Oiapoque, AP, replacing bulbs and training local technicians. The goal is to prevent the consumption of 270 million liters of diesel and the emission of more than 800 tons of CO2.

The budget increase reinforces the Federal Government's priority for projects with high economic and environmental impact. According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), resources from the Legal Amazon Development Account (CDAL) ensure the implementation of proposals with predictability and security until the end of their validity period.

The next steps involve direct monitoring by the MME and Eletrobras, in addition to new analyses of isolated systems and energy and logistics integration projects on the Madeira and Tocantins rivers, within the scope of the Amazon Energy Program.
