Aiming to reduce his company's energy expenditure, Solomon Sharpe, CEO of SVREL (Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited), announced the construction of a 1,7 MW solar plant and a 5 MW battery system completely independent of the public grid in the city of Portmore, Jamaica.
According to the executive, the expectation is that the photovoltaic project reduce the amount spent on the account of the company's energy, which is worth around one hundred million dollars per year.
“We want to reduce it significantly to less than 10 million dollars per year and be as efficient as possible”, comments Sharpe, during the plant’s opening ceremony.

In total, approximately US$600 million for the installation of the system, which also contains a monitoring system and batteries from the manufacturer ATESS Power.
The system consists of the ATESS PCS100/500 battery inverter, HPS100 hybrid inverter and BR100/145 lithium battery bank. All equipment is integrated into two containers, facilitating handling and installation, operating and maintaining the plant.
“Jamaica has committed to ensuring that by 2030, 50% of its energy is produced by renewable energy, and this can only happen with the contribution of the private sector. Therefore, a 1,5 to 1,7 MW plant is a big step”, he emphasizes Matthew Samuda, Minister of Economic Growth and Job Creation.
