The current chairman of the board of directors of CCEE (Chamber of Electric Energy Commercialization), Alexandre Ramos, is expected to assume the presidency of Cemig (Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais) starting May 11, replacing Reynaldo Passanezi, who has been at the helm of the company since 2020. The nomination was approved by the state-owned company's board at a meeting held on the 7th.
The change marks a significant transition in the leadership of one of the largest companies in the Brazilian electricity sector, with the arrival of an executive with a technical profile and extensive regulatory experience.
Trajectory
Alexandre Ramos has been at CCEE since 2023, when he was elected to chair the entity's Board of Directors, taking office in May of the same year.
Since then, the sector has undergone a period of transformation, particularly at CCEE, focusing on governance, modernization, and debates about the expansion of the free energy market, including the recently completed restructuring process of the Chamber's governance.
Prior to that, he built his career in other institutions in the electricity sector, including stints at the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy). ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), EPE (Energy Research Company) and ONS (National System Operator). In these roles, he worked on topics such as energy planning, regulation and expansion of electrical infrastructure.
Ramos also maintains close ties with the current Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, with whom he frequently engages in discussions regarding energy policies.
Reynaldo Passanezi is stepping down as president of Cemig after a term that began in 2020, marked by initiatives for financial restructuring, debt reduction, and strengthening corporate governance.
Throughout the period, the company also made progress in investments in the modernization of assets and the improvement of operational indicators.
His career in the sector also includes the presidency of CESP, where he gained prominence for leading the company's reorganization process and its subsequent privatization.
Critical moment
Alexandre Ramos' departure from CCEE comes at a particularly sensitive time for the free energy market environment, which is facing a liquidity crisis involving major trading companies.
This scenario has generated concerns in the sector regarding the stability of operations and the fulfillment of contracts.
Despite the significance of the change, there is still no decision on who will assume the presidency of CCEE. Behind the scenes, speculation circulates about names both inside and outside the organization, but so far there is no official indication of who will succeed them.
