Swiss multinational ABB and AWS (Amazon Web Services) have announced a partnership to develop a cloud-based digital solution for real-time EV fleet management. According to the companies, the solution will optimize the efficient use of cars and accelerate the electrification of transport fleets. The platform is expected to be implemented in the second half of 2021.
“ABB and Amazon share a similar vision around the potential of EVs to transform society. Our combined experience supports the common goal of making management simpler and more accessible,” said Frank Muehlon, President of ABB’s eMobility Division.
“This new solution will revolutionize the world of electric mobility, integrating hardware and software into a single ecosystem to provide a seamless experience. We are confident that, working together, we can boost the use of electric vehicle fleets, giving operators the confidence to make the transition,” he highlighted.
Jon Allen, director of Professional Services for Automotive at AWS, commented that the companies will bring the expertise, agility and scale that the cloud brings to the EV industry, helping customers make a successful transition to a future with less emissions.
To give you an idea, for example, 23% of global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions are currently caused by the transport sector. Electrifying traffic can substantially reduce CO₂ levels, and large fleets can play a crucial role in this, with almost 400 electric vans and trucks on the road for deliveries around the world.
