A fire at a Celesc (Centrais Elétricas de Santa Catarina SA) substation in São Bento do Sul (SC) left more than 57 consumer units without electricity this Sunday (26).

The incident began at 21:44 PM, following a major short circuit at the output of one of the substation's feeders, according to the company. Initially, approximately 15 consumer units were affected in the municipality.

However, to ensure the safety of the distributor's teams and the Fire Department during the firefighting operation, it was necessary to shut down a transmission line that also serves the municipalities of Campo Alegre and Rio Negrinho, raising the number of impacted units to 57 at the peak of the incident.

In a statement, Celesc reported that power began to be restored at 23:32 PM, after the risks were neutralized. At that time, power was restored in Campo Alegre, Rio Negrinho, and part of São Bento do Sul.

By around 1am this Monday (27), the service was fully restored in the other locations. As a result of the incident, a transformer at the substation was damaged.

Despite the normalization of the supply, Celesc informed that some consumer units may operate with restrictions throughout the day, until the affected equipment is replaced.

"No one was injured in this incident, and Celesc is cooperating with the relevant authorities in the investigation into the cause of the accident," the company reported.

In total, Celesc serves more than 3,3 million consumer units in Santa Catarina and Paraná, covering 285 municipalities and practically the entire territory of Santa Catarina.

Frequent outages in Santa Catarina put pressure on Celesc for preventative measures.
