During participation in the Esfera Forum, held this Friday (10), in Belém (PA), the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, anticipated that the first auction for energy storage with batteries should have an estimated demand of 2 GW. The market expectation is that the auction will take place in 2026.
"Balancing steady and intermittent energy is the world's greatest challenge today, and we will address it in partnership with regulatory agencies, the Federal Audit Court (TCU), and the Federal Comptroller General's Office (CGU). We will hold the first battery auction and aim to reach 2 GW," the minister stated.
Silveira also announced the creation of the National Secretariat of Electromobility, which will aim to structure a medium-term plan for the sector. "It's important to have a plan for national electromobility," he emphasized.
The minister also revealed that, in the next six months, construction on the TikTok data center in Ceará should begin.
"In six months, we'll actually have construction work to house TikTok's data center. R$50 billion will be invested in Ceará, demonstrating Brazil's potential to accommodate these investments," he stated.
During the panel, Silveira also highlighted the Federal Government's investments in decarbonizing the Amazon, with a projected R$5 billion investment by 2030 through the Amazon Energy program. The initiative aims to replace diesel in isolated systems with renewable sources.
"We are decarbonizing the planet's lungs, reducing costs for the country, and bringing development to the region," the minister stated.
Silveira participated in the panel alongside ministers Celso Sabino (Tourism) and Vinícius Marques de Carvalho (Office of the Comptroller General of the Union).

It's a good sign that this auction for battery energy storage will be held, as it will help resolve the controversial flow reversal technique, which has been used as an excuse by utilities to hinder the approval of DG projects. It's undoubtedly the best technical and economic solution and helps leverage investment in these types of projects by improving the Internal Rate of Return (IRR).
