Brazil expanded its installed capacity by 165,3 MW in February in the electricity matrix, driven by the entry into operation of five wind farms (64,2 MW), one thermoelectric plant (53,13 MW) and four small hydroelectric plants (47,98 MW).

With this, the first two months of the year ended with a total of 1.613 MW added to the electricity matrix, increasing the country's installed capacity to 209.904 MW, according to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

In the first two months of 2025, 36 new plants were released for commercial operation, namely:

  • 13 solar photovoltaic, totaling 597,21 MW;
  • 3 thermoelectric plants, with 513,53 MW;
  • 15 wind farms, totaling 379,2 MW;
  • 5 small hydroelectric plants (PCHs), with 57,31 MW.

The new plants were distributed across 10 states, in all regions of the country. Mato Grosso do Sul led the expansion in the two-month period, with 437,13 MW, followed by Minas Gerais (336,83 MW). In February, the greatest growth was recorded in Bahia, with 64,2 MW, resulting from the entry into operation of five plants. The expectation of ANEEL is that, throughout 2025, the expansion of the electrical matrix will reach 9,95 GW, a number close to the record of 10,79 GW registered in 2024.
