Brazil has surpassed the mark of 8 million consumer units (UCs) benefiting from solar energy in the distributed generation (DG) segment, according to updated data from [source missing]. ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) this Tuesday (7).
The new milestone was reached less than six months after the national market hit the 7 million unit mark in January 2026.
When broken down by state, Minas Gerais maintains its national leadership, concentrating 1,92 million protected areas, followed by São Paulo (1,05 million) and Rio Grande do Sul (565).
The vast majority of consumers benefiting from credits from the country's distributed solar power plants are in the residential consumption class, totaling 5,1 million consumer units.
Next come commercial (1,85 million), rural (808) and industrial (171) installations. Throughout the first half of 2026, the national market gained approximately 413 new consumers.
What is the difference between UCs and distributed solar generation systems?
Although Brazil has surpassed the mark of 8 million consumer units benefiting from distributed generation (DG) of solar energy, this number does not correspond to the quantity of solar systems installed in the country.
According to ANEELUCs represent all consumers who receive energy credits from solar distributed generation systems, including residences, businesses, rural properties, and industries.
The number of distributed generation (DG) systems is smaller, since a single power plant can supply multiple consumer units through modalities such as remote self-consumption, shared generation, and projects with multiple consumer units.
Currently, Brazil has just over 4,53 million installed distributed generation systems, which today benefit more than 8 million consumer units throughout the country.
