A fire involving the solar energy system installed at the Dr. Mário Gatti Municipal Hospital, in Campinas (SP), hit part of the unit's roof this Sunday (27). According to the Fire Department, the flames started after a short circuit in the wiring connected to the photovoltaic installation.
According to the corporation, the fire reached the central unit of the system and spread through the cables, also coming into contact with polystyrene material present on the roof and reaching the area of the photovoltaic modules.
Firefighters used fire extinguishers during the initial firefighting efforts and de-energized the installation. After disconnecting the cables, the flames were brought under control. No one was injured.
The smoke from the fire spread to areas near the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and the emergency room. According to the Fire Department, the admission of new patients to the emergency room was temporarily suspended until the smoke dissipated.
In a note sent to the Canal Solar, the Mário Gatti Network reported that it registered a "minor fire in photovoltaic panels" located on the roof of the hospital and stated that there were no victims.
