The intensification of tensions in Venezuela, with the capture of a political leader linked to the regime and the worsening of internal disputes, reignited discussions about sanctions and energy security.
Meanwhile, statements from the United States involving Greenland, a strategic territory due to its location in the Arctic and its mineral potential, have amplified diplomatic tensions amidst the growing dispute over natural resources and trade routes.
But although distinct, these episodes highlight a broader movement: energy, strategic minerals, and territorial control have once again taken center stage in the economic, technological, and strategic disputes between the great powers.
In an interview with Canal SolarJorge Ferreira dos Santos Filho, professor of Administration at ESPM and Senior Advisor in International Business at Banco do Brasil, explained that this repositioning is the result of a combination of simultaneous dynamics that have been redefining the international landscape in recent years.
The first factor is the persistence of armed conflicts as direct drivers of energy volatility. The war between Russia and Ukraine, which began in 2022, is cited as a prime example.
