Article published in Magazine Canal Solar – Vol. 7, No. 1, February/2026

Mercosur's energy policies have made concrete progress in the last year, driven by growing demand, expansion of renewable sources, and increased regional exchange of electricity and gas.

Together, the countries in the bloc are consolidating one of the cleanest electricity grids in the world, while simultaneously pursuing energy security and business opportunities.

Brazil, the main market in Mercosur, recorded an increase of approximately 5,5% in electricity supply in 2025, with an increase of almost 40 TWh.

Brazil's electricity matrix has maintained a predominantly renewable profile, with approximately 88% of generation coming from clean sources.

Wind energy exceeded 107 TWh in the year, while solar photovoltaic reached approximately 71 TWh, reflecting strong expansion in installed capacity.

By the end of 2025, monthly electricity consumption exceeded 47 GWh, indicating strong demand, especially in the industrial and service sectors.
