Two blackouts recorded between Sunday (12) and Tuesday (14) left thousands of homes without power in Sergipe and paralyzed operations at Fafen (Nitrogen Fertilizer Factory), of PetroBrazil, generating losses and direct impacts on the state's industrial production.
In the first instance, between Sunday and Monday, the power outage affected several neighborhoods in Aracaju and the Metropolitan Region, leaving approximately 170 homes without electricity for several hours, in addition to causing constant fluctuations in the supply.
According to Energisa, the incident was caused by a problem in the power supply, for which the transmission company serving the region is responsible.
On Tuesday (14), a new interruption directly impacted the operations of Fafen (Nitrogen Fertilizer Factory), located in Laranjeiras.
The work stoppage has already generated losses exceeding R$ 5 million, according to Sindipetro (Unified Union of Petroleum Workers). Petroleiros, PetroChemicals and Plastics in the States of Alagoas and Sergipe).
The disruption affected the production of fertilizers, such as urea (an essential input for agribusiness), which could result in increased food costs.
In a note, the PetroBras, the person responsible for the unit, reported that, after negotiations with the government of Sergipe and the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), the forecast is for provisional normalization of supply by this Wednesday (15).
The company also stated that it remains in constant dialogue with the authorities, with the aim of mitigating the economic and social impacts resulting from the problem.
Risks in supply
The incidents recorded in Sergipe reinforce the complicated moment experienced by the Brazilian electricity sector, marked by concerns about the security of supply and the risk of new blackouts in different regions of the country.
Factors such as pressure on the transmission system, growing energy demand, and operational challenges have raised concerns about the need for the country to expand its infrastructure and national energy planning.
