A fault at an Axia Energia substation caused a blackout on Tuesday morning (14), in Recife (PE), affecting neighborhoods in the West and South zones of the city and interrupting the operation of the 29 metro stations, which serves more than 170 thousand passengers a day.
In a statement, Axia reported that the power outage occurred at 5:43 AM in the 69 kV sector of the Bongi substation. "The cause of the outage is being investigated," the company stated.
Neoenergia, the company responsible for energy distribution in the region, stated that it carried out "load transfer maneuvers" to minimize the impacts of the incident and that the supply was restored at 7:50 am in the affected neighborhoods.
Despite the restoration of power supply in parts of the city in the early morning hours, the Recife Metro remained out of service for longer and only resumed operation around 9:30 am, following the forecast of CBTU Recife on your social networks.
The strike, which occurred during rush hour, caused disruption for the public. With the subway out of service, thousands of passengers had to find alternative means of transportation, leading to overcrowded bus terminals and increased travel times.
In a statement, Neoenergia reiterated that the causes of the blackout are not related to its distribution network, but that they will be investigated jointly with Axia Energia, the company responsible for the substation where the failure occurred. The case remains under investigation by the companies involved.
