Does anyone with a guarantee need solar insurance?

Understand why the warranty alone is not enough to protect the photovoltaic generator kit

O significant growth in solar energy in Brazil has also driven the search for solar insurance. But as it is a relatively new market and still little explored, the subject generates doubts both among PROFESSIONALS area and among consumers.

One proof of this is that in the Electron, the first broker in the country specialized in the photovoltaic market, one of the most frequent questions among solar energy integrators is precisely this: “if I already offer a guarantee to my client, Why does he still need insurance?"

So, to find out why those with a warranty need solar insurance, keep reading this article.

Difference Between Warranty and Solar Insurance

First of all, it is important to know that the warranty and insurance are complementary; one does not exclude the need for the other.

In a simplified way, the warranty covers manufacturing defects, while the insurance covers external damage, such as windstorm, hail, fire, theft, among other risks.

Check the table below, which shows the comparison of items covered by warranty and insurance, based on Elétron Equipment Miscellaneous Risk Insurance – valid after installation.

To make it even easier to understand, think about a car. When buying a new vehicle, even if the dealership offers a factory warranty, it is necessary to take out insurance to protect yourself against possible accidents, right? With the photovoltaic generator the logic is the same.

A inverter warranty is ideal to cover manufacturing defects, durability and performance of electronic components over a pre-established period. If a component fails within that time frame due to a defect, the manufacturer can repair or replace it at no additional cost to the owner.

However, even if the customer has five or ten years of extended warranty, they will still be unprotected against claims if they do not have insurance. In other words, if the photovoltaic system suffers any of the accidents mentioned in the coverage table above, it will not be compensated under the warranty.

Benefits of solar insurance

On the other hand, if the customer is insured in the event of an accident, they will have their losses reimbursed. The cost of taking out solar insurance is practically negligible and, as a rule, much more economical than car insurance.

For example, one year of insurance for a photovoltaic system worth R$100 would cost on average just R$629,98 for integrators via the Elétron Platform. This is equivalent, in one year, to R$1,72 per day.

Now, imagine the customer having a loss of thousands of reais, or even a total loss, for not having taken out solar insurance for less than two reais a day?

In most cases where insurance is not taken out, it is due to a lack of knowledge that there is specialized insurance for solar energy. That is why the role of the integrator is so important. It is his commitment, as a professional, to warn consumers about the risks they are subject to without solar insurance.

In addition to protecting the customer's investment, insurance can be used as a competitive differentiator by integrators, exchanging the discount for the insurance benefit, which is much cheaper.

Another advantage for integrators is the possibility of including insurance as an additional product in the after-sales plan, to generate extra revenue with its renewal after the policy expires.

Conclusion

Therefore, when you hear a customer, or even another integrator, saying that they already offer a warranty and do not need insurance, remember that they are complementary. The warranty offers support in the event of manufacturing defects, while insurance is a safeguard against external events, such as windstorms, cyclones, hail, fires, theft and other unforeseen events.

Given the numerous advantages, contracting this service becomes not only a sensible option, but also a strategy for integrators to add more value to their proposals, while ensuring consumers' peace of mind and security.
