Tenda Atacado has completed the installation of a zero-grid solar system at one of its stores in Matão, in the interior of São Paulo state. The project has an installed capacity of 680 kWp and received an investment of R$ 2,2 million.

Founded in 2001, Tenda Atacado is a Brazilian company in the wholesale/retail segment. The chain has 45 stores distributed throughout the capital, Greater São Paulo, the coast, and the interior of São Paulo state.

The system installed in Matão has 972 photovoltaic modules and is expected to produce approximately 838 kWh per year. This volume corresponds to about 35% of the unit's electricity demand.

With its own generation, Tenda expects to reduce its expenses on purchasing energy from third parties by R$ 30 per month. The estimated savings reach R$ 360 per year.

In the zero-grid model, the photovoltaic system remains connected to the electrical grid, but does not inject surplus energy into the distributor's grid. Generation follows the unit's instantaneous consumption. When production exceeds demand, a controller automatically reduces the power output of the inverters.

In this way, all the energy produced is used for the store's own consumption, without generating credits to offset the electricity bill.

According to the company, the project aims to combine operational efficiency, reduced dependence on energy purchased from third parties, and increased use of renewable sources in its operations.

“Energy is a relevant component of retail operations and, therefore, needs to be addressed from an efficiency and strategic perspective. The investment in Matão combines self-generation, the use of a renewable source, and more efficient resource management,” says José Rafael Vasquez, CEO of Tenda Atacado.

According to the executive, the installation will also allow for the evaluation of the solution's technical and economic performance before its possible adoption in other units of the network.

"At the same time, it allows us to generate knowledge about the performance of this solution and evaluate, using technical and economic criteria, where it can make sense for the future of Tenda," he adds.
