A "BNEF Pioneers", annual technology and innovation competition organized by BloombergNEF, is with the open for subscriptions. Those interested in participating must fill out the online form to November 1st. Click here to access the form.

The competition seeks innovative technological solutions that bring the world closer to net zero (goal of zero net carbon emissions).

Innovations that serve the energy, transportation, materials, manufacturing, consumer and agricultural sectors can participate; or providers of solutions and technologies that help advance climate understanding, scale carbon capture, utilization and storage, and advance climate adaptation.

For 2025, they will be launched three new challenges to achieve the net zero: make “light” industry more sustainable, innovations in energy storage e increase climate adaptation capabilities. Beyond the category wild cards with solutions outside the proposed themes.

Up to three companies or projects wildcard will be awarded and will receive opportunities for: BNEF Pioneer 2025 recognition, one year of product access BNEF Web and to all insights, be a member of a group of Pioneer alumni, participate in the eight summit global, participate in startup events organized by BNEF and appear in BNEF public reports, research and videos.

Registrations must be made by November 1st by companies that meet the critérios of the competition and the winners will be announced in April 2025. Throughout the year, BNEF's team of analysts will publish research on the winners, the three 2025 challenge topics, and other innovators in climate technology. 

Previous editions

Since its creation in 2010, “BNEF Pioneers” has already awarded the title to more than 150 companies. Earlier this year, the winners of Pioneer 2024 were announced, with 11 startups tackling challenges such as alleviating bottlenecks in deploying clean energy, decarbonizing the construction and operation of buildings, and creating the next generation of zero-emissions fuels, as well as three winners wildcards.
