Brasol has expanded its partnership with the Pague Menos pharmacy chain by completing the acquisition of 13 new assets in the Northeast. With the purchase, the number of Pague Menos assets located in the five regions of the country reached 25.
“Over time, the partnership with Pague Menos has grown stronger as our projects have provided energy cost reductions for the customer, in addition to being sustainable solutions that reduce environmental impact,” explained Rafael Brasiliense, Commercial and Marketing Director at Brasol.
“With each completed project, we reaffirm our commitment to the Brazilian energy transition, providing renewable energy and reducing operating costs for our customers,” he added.
In 2025, the partnership between Brasol and the second largest retailer in the national pharmaceutical sector will complete four years with a total of 25 assets. It all started in 2021, with the acquisition of six projects in the North region.
In 2022, three more in the South and Southeast regions. In 2023, Brasol purchased a project in the Central-West. And in 2024, one more in the South, another in the Central-West and 13 in the Northeast. Together, the 25 assets total 23 MWp of installed capacity in all regions of Brazil.
By December 2024, projects acquired in 2021 have already avoided the emission of approximately 9 thousand tons of CO₂ equivalent (tCO2e). Projects acquired in 2022 and 2023 avoided the emission of 1.557 tCO2e and 309 tCO2e, respectively. The expectation for the coming years is that a total of approximately 85.020 tCO2e will no longer be released into the environment.
The 15 most recent projects, from 2024 — one in the South, one in the Midwest and the 13 in the Northeast — have an estimated potential to avoid 14.979 tCO2e annually, totaling up to 272.687 tCO2e by the end of the contract.
This partnership is in line with Pague Menos' new ESG direction. The company recently updated its goals and guidelines after an in-depth analysis of the contribution of environmental, social and governance aspects to the management of business risks and opportunities.
According to Rosi Purceti, Vice President of People, Sustainability and Transformation at Pague Menos, ESG is not just a trend, but a competitive differentiator and a necessity to ensure the resilience and perpetuity of businesses in the long term.
“Through changes like this, we can contribute to the realization of our purpose and we see value and opportunity in maintaining and expanding our sustainable practices,” says the executive.
Currently, 86% of the network's units use renewable energy through solar power supply.
The 13 new assets in the Northeast region total 16 MWp of installed capacity and are located in the states of Ceará, Maranhão, Paraíba, Pernambuco and Piauí. All of them underwent retrofitting in order to optimize energy generation, ensure maximum efficiency in meeting Pague Menos' needs and generate savings.
