The California Energy Commission has awarded a $4 million grant to perovskite developer Tandem PV to test its tandem perovskite solar panels.
The resources will be used to conduct field tests and independent durability and performance analyses, considered essential steps to validate the technology before its entry into the market.
With a conversion efficiency of 28%, the modules developed by the company offer 30% better performance than traditional silicon panels. Studies by Oxford PV indicate that perovskite technology can theoretically achieve up to 43% efficiency.
This isn't Tandem PV's first public investment. In March, the company raised $50 million in a round of funding for the construction of a manufacturing plant. perovskite on a large scale in the United States.
“This new funding accelerates our durability testing to bring us closer to delivering a new standard for clean energy and providing proven, reliable, market-ready, high-efficiency solar power,” said Colin Bailie, founder and CTO of Tandem PV.
