The president of Colombia, Gustavo PetroAccording to [name], he commented in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on the main points of the telephone conversation he had with the President of the United States, Donald Trump. PetroThe dialogue highlighted differences in vision regarding the relationship between the US and Latin America, especially concerning American interest in Venezuelan oil and the continent's strategic role in the international energy landscape. According to the Colombian president, South America possesses favorable natural conditions for expanding clean energy generation, particularly solar power, which accounts for a significant portion of the estimated potential. According to a study by EPE (Energy Research Company), Brazil has a technical potential of approximately 700 GW of offshore wind energy in shallow waters with favorable winds along the coast. Petro He also highlighted the importance of hydroelectric power in Colombia, which accounts for the largest share of the country's electricity generation, with approximately 13-14 GW of installed hydroelectric capacity, according to data from the Colombian energy sector. He also mentioned the growing potential for green hydrogen, supported by the availability of low-cost renewable electricity. "Using Latin America solely for oil would lead to the destruction of international law," he stated. According to the president, the continent's total renewable generation potential reaches 1.400 GW, a volume exceeding the annual demand of the United States, estimated at around 840 GW, to replace oil and coal. "Latin America can make 100% of the US energy matrix clean," he said. Furthermore, according to... PetroIt would take approximately US$500 billion in investments to expand solar, wind, and hydroelectric generation projects, as well as transmission infrastructure and regional energy integration.
