The Senate's Infrastructure Services Committee approved, this Wednesday (2), a bill that establishes inflation as the ceiling for annual adjustments to electricity rates, except for duly justified exceptions.
The text also creates a special regime to curb tariff increases in states in the Northern Region. The text now goes to the CAE (Committee on Economic Affairs) for analysis, which will definitively analyze the proposal, since if approved, the text will not need to be voted on in plenary, unless there is an appeal.
O PL 170 / 2026 determines that ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) adopt an index or methodology for annual adjustments to electricity rates, valid equally throughout the country, which is not the case today.
Among the criteria are: the official consumer inflation index as the maximum percentage for the adjustment; moderation and predictability of the adjustment; and balance between dealerships and regions of the country.
The proposal, authored by former Senator Mecias de Jesus and reported by Senator Chico Rodrigues (PSB-RR)It also stipulates that energy distributors whose price adjustments exceed the inflation limit will have their contracts suspended.
According to the rapporteur, the objective of the measure is to ensure that the country has a fair energy tariff while simultaneously maintaining the economic and financial balance of the companies' concession contracts.
"The projection of ANEEL "The forecast for this year is that adjustments in electricity supply will average 8%, compared to an estimated inflation of 3,9%," Rodrigues noted.
