Electricity bills will remain under the yellow flag and with an extra charge in July, the decision states. ANEEL

The market had considered the possibility of a green flag (indicating a higher alert level), but the revision of hydrological projections changed the scenario.

A ANEEL (Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica) anunciou a manutenção da bandeira tarifária amarela para o mês de julho. Com isso, os consumidores brasileiros continuarão pagando na conta de luz um adicional de R$ 1,885 a cada 100 kWh consumidos.

Nos bastidores do setor elétrico, as projeções para a definição da bandeira de julho chegaram a gerar divergências entre agentes do mercado. Parte dos analistas trabalhava com a possibilidade de retorno da bandeira verde, cenário que acabou sendo descartado. 

“Até a segunda semana de junho, estávamos trabalhando com a possibilidade de bandeira verde, mas as variações nas previsões de chuvas na região Sul levou à revisão desse cenário”, afirmou Fred Menezes, diretor de comercialização da Armor Energia.

According to ANEEL, a permanência da bandeira amarela reflete as condições menos favoráveis de geração no país, típicas do período seco, quando há redução dos níveis dos reservatórios das hidrelétricas e aumento da necessidade de despacho de usinas termelétricas, que possuem custos mais elevados.

Após um início de ano marcado pela bandeira verde, quando não há cobrança adicional na conta de luz, o país passa a acumular agora três meses consecutivos de bandeira amarela.

“Diante desse cenário, a Agência reforça a importância da adoção de hábitos eficientes de consumo para evitar desperdícios e contribuir para a economia doméstica e a sustentabilidade do setor elétrico”, destacou a ANEEL.

How do tariff flags work?

Created in 2015 by ANEEL, o sistema de bandeiras tarifárias tem como objetivo sinalizar aos consumidores o custo da geração de energia elétrica no país.

Mensalmente, o ONS (Operador Nacional do Sistema Elétrico) avalia as condições de operação do SIN (Sistema Interligado Nacional), define a estratégia de despacho das usinas e estima os custos de geração de energia.

Com base nessas informações, são definidas as bandeiras tarifárias. Quando a bandeira é verde, não há cobrança adicional na conta de luz. Já as bandeiras amarela e vermelha indicam aumento dos custos de geração e resultam em cobranças extras para os consumidores.

Currently, the additional costs are:

  • Yellow flag: An additional R$ 1,885 for every 100 kWh consumed;
  • Red flag level 1: An additional R$ 4,46 for every 100 kWh consumed;
  • Red flag level 2: An increase of R$ 7,87 for every 100 kWh consumed.
