O CNN Talks debated last Monday (11), in São Paulothe Po future da infrastructure do Brazil. The event approached subjects about Services, energy e sanitation.

The event brought together authorities from the logistics sector, as well as the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, the minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho and the vice-governor of Minas Gerais, professor Mateus Simões. There was also the participation of businesspeople from the infrastructure sector, such as Antonio Scala, country manager at Enel Brasil, and Radamés Casseb, CEO of Aegea.

Mateus Simões, vice-governor of Minas Gerais, commented on the infrastructure panorama in the state, with an emphasis on the expansion of the transport network and the significant advancement of photovoltaic energy in the region.

“From the point of view of logistics infrastructure, we are exactly at the center of connection between the Northeast and the South, between the coast and the Center-West, so most of Brazil's road network, from a state point of view, is in Minas Gerais”, he stated.

The vice-governor compared the state's performance to what the “Northeast did in the past with wind energy production” in relation to solar energy generation.

“We are the largest producer of photovoltaic energy in Brazil, the cleanest matrix in the country, we practically do not have any source of energy that is not renewable”, he added.

Furthermore, Simões also defended the relevance of events that bring together representatives of the sector. “It’s an opportunity for us to question some of the public decision assumptions we make, but also to present some new theses to be publicly debated.”

Other topics discussed at the event

The governor of São Paulo, Tarcisio Freitas, commented on the privatization of Sabesp in the opening panel of CNN Talks, which according to him will have government participation, even with the sale to the private sector.

According to Tarcísio, investments of over R$60 billion are expected. And there should be more auctions soon and he defended more private investments.

“Brazil has grown a lot in terms of infrastructure, especially when it comes to project development. These projects, today, arrive abroad and manage to mobilize capital and mobilize interest”, he commented.

“I think that in the coming years we will have a very large number of auctions and a lot of investment arriving, generating jobs, making a difference, leaving a legacy”, he highlighted.

In the debate with the Minister of Ports and Airports, he commented on the future of transport in Brazil, and spoke about the contributions that the ministry intends to make to Brazilian logistics, including investments in Congonhas Airport, in São Paulo.

The minister also mentioned the plans for the Port of Santos, which should receive an investment of R$12,6 billion from the federal government by 2028.

The minister states that all sets of investments in the Port of Santos are strategic. “The Port represents more than 30% of the export route. We need to create a more regionalized vision of ports”, he highlighted.

“We live in a time of growth in agribusiness, growth in the Brazilian economy and the need to flow production. Next week, we will announce an investment of more than R$2 billion for Congonhas Airport,” he concluded.
