Last week, the Federal Police launched Operation Pleonexia II, aimed at dismantling a criminal organization specializing in scams involving financial fraud related to investments in solar energy.

The operation resulted in the execution of four preventive arrest warrants, 17 search and seizure warrants, and the freezing of assets and funds totaling R$ 244 million. The measures were carried out at addresses located in Natal (RN), São Paulo (SP), and São Leopoldo (RS).

According to the Federal Police, the launch of the first phase of the operation made it possible to identify new members of the criminal organization, especially people responsible for operating and assisting in the laundering of money obtained through fraud.

Investigations indicate that the group used corporate structures, sham contracts, and fictitious deals to conceal illicit assets and reintroduce the funds into the formal market. Part of the resources was directed towards the acquisition and resale of high-value assets, particularly luxury vehicles, used as a money laundering tool.

Lawyer and businessman are arrested.

In the most recent phase of the operation, the Federal Police arrested a lawyer in Natal (RN) and a businessman in São Paulo (SP). Both are identified as members of the group responsible for laundering the funds obtained through financial fraud.

According to the Federal Police, the lawyer was involved in the legal structuring of the scheme, while the businessman was allegedly linked to the movement and concealment of the money, mainly through a luxury car dealership in São Paulo, identified as one of the main channels for laundering the funds.

In addition to the arrests, cash, cell phones, and other electronic devices were seized and will be submitted for forensic examination and technical analysis.

False investment promises: how did the scheme work?

Investigations have identified a company based in Natal (RN) that offered investments in the solar energy sector with the promise of a fixed return of 5% per month, a yield considered incompatible with the real dynamics of the market.

The proposal involved the sale of shares in solar panels, which would supposedly be managed by the company to generate recurring income for investors. However, according to... Federal policeThe company did not actually operate in the solar energy sector and did not have authorization from regulatory bodies to operate under this business model.

According to the investigation, the criminal group moved more than R$ 160 million through bank accounts, and it is estimated that around 6.300 people were defrauded throughout the country.
