The lack of inputs in China has been affecting the global photovoltaic industry, directly impacting the prices of wafers and, consequently, solar panels.
This shortage is associated with strong demand from the global market due to the recovery in the production chain that suffered negative impacts last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Faced with this scenario, wafer manufacturers LONGi and Zhonghuan increased the prices of their products ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday.
According to PV Magazine, Zhonghuan priced its M6 wafers at ¥3.35 ($0,51)* per piece and its G1 products at ¥3.25 ($0,50). For the new G12 wafers, the price has been set at ¥5.60 (US$0,86) per piece.
Yes, LONGi Solar announced the new prices on its website. Its large-size M10 wafer (182/247 mm) rose from ¥3,90 ($0,60) to ¥4,05 ($0,62), while the monocrystalline M6 p-type (166/223 mm ) rose from ¥3,25 (US$0,50) to ¥3,35 (US$0,51).
