Inverter catches fire and causes fire in minimarket

The incident mobilized the Fire Department team and Equatorial technicians in the interior of Alagoas

Um fire principle on a mini market in the municipality of Union of Palmares, in the interior of Alagoas, scared customers and employees present in the establishment in last Monday morning (19).

The incident mobilized the Fire Department, that discovered that the fire started in the inverter of solar energy connected to the distribution board.

A team needed to isolate the risk area and remove combustible material close to the accident. In sequence, They fought the flames with the use of fire extinguishers.

Equatorial technicians, concessionaire that manages energy distribution services in the region, were also there to interrupt the power supply to the photovoltaic panels and the external network, in order to collaborate with the work of the firefighters.

After power interruption, the aftermath was carried out in order to avoid new fire outbreaks on site. Fortunately, the fire did not spread and no one was injured.

Lack of training

Unfortunately, cases like União dos Palmares have become increasingly common in Brazil and have drawn the attention of Brazilian authorities and companies operating in the sector.

Less than two weeks ago, the Federal District Fire Department and the Ecori Solar Energy promoted, for example, in Brasília (DF), one andwind to train teams and define technical regulations to mitigate the risks of fire and electric shock, as well as improving some fire-fighting techniques in photovoltaic systems.

The meeting was attended by 350 people, including military personnel, corporation students and guests. The training included a practical part with the simulation of an electric arc in direct current, in addition to the presentation of electric cars and inverters.

Wrong installations

This year, the Canal Solar has already reported several stories of problems caused by solar energy system equipment that were incorrectly installed by companies that do not have the credibility to carry out services of this nature.

In October, for example, a short circuit caused by poor installation of a photovoltaic system It caused a fire and also scared employees and guests of a hotel in the center of Rio Branco (AC).

Before that, in February, the situation was even worse: a shoe factory in Patos de Minas (MG) caught fire after the mistaken installation of solar energy panels, according to the Police. The flames reached approximately 600 of the project's 2,3 m².

How to avoid fires in photovoltaic projects?

Long before all these cases happened, the Canal Solar I had also published articles and articles on how to avoid fires in photovoltaic projects, especially micro and mini generation ones.

In one of these contents, for example, an exclusive interview was shared with the Captain of the Las Vegas Fire Department, Richard Birt, which drew attention to the importance of training professionals working in the sector. Check the content by clicking here
