Generation of Photovoltaics, storage, extra-high voltage and digitization across the energy sector. These are the four keys to achieving carbon neutrality.

This is the analysis of Gao Jifan, president of Trina Solar. In the future, he says, larger wafers, more efficient cells and durable and reliable modules will be the direction of all photovoltaic technology.

“Thanks to the rapid development in recent years of large wafer-based solar cell technology, this has become a clear trend. As the next step, we will strive to develop more efficient N-type cells, in order to achieve a conversion efficiency of 25,5%”, he highlighted.

“Several technical routes are available for the development of N-type cells. Whether one technology or many will develop in parallel and become the mainstream, depends on cost reductions,” said Jifan.

Outlook for energy consumption

In terms of energy consumption, the executive took as an example a photovoltaic plant installed in northern China to outline perspectives. “According to the most recent data, clean energy, generated within six months after the plant comes into operation, can balance the electricity consumed in its construction.”

“A solar plant can generate electricity for 30 years, which means it can generate 60 times more energy. Furthermore, newly built photovoltaic factories or power plants in western China are essentially based on clean, carbon-free sources,” he reported.

According to the expert, the era of establishing a zero-carbon industrial system in the photovoltaic industry has arrived, so there is no need to worry about electricity consumption in the solar sector.

Solar energy in China

For the president of Trina Solar, solar energy is now one of the cheapest sources of renewable energy. By 2025, for example, China's total installed photovoltaic power capacity will increase to 450 GW. “China's National Energy Administration says 282 GW of photovoltaic power has been installed by the end of October. Solar energy is becoming a powerful new force on the country’s path to achieving carbon neutrality,” he commented.

About Trina Solar

Trina Solar disclosed that it has deployed a 1+3+N multi-tier business ecosystem that provides vertical solutions including products, systems and smart energy to help achieve this neutrality and the development of clean energy around the world. “That is, the carbon peak and neutrality objectives are the most important driving force for the development of the renewable industry,” concluded Jifan.
