In 2022, the shares of the Procel (Electric Energy Conservation Program) resulted in savings of R$22,20 billion kWh, equivalent to supplying a city with 11,16 million homes for one year, according to a report released last Tuesday (06).
This amount represented a energy savings corresponding to 4,5% of Brazil's total electricity consumption last year, avoiding a cost of R$4,14 billion. In this way, the actions prevented the emission of 942 thousand tons of carbon dioxide or the same as the emissions of 323 thousand vehicles per year.

The program's main energy efficiency actions are: Procel Reluz (investments in modernizing public lighting), Procel Educação (actions in schools on environmental awareness) and the Procel Seal (seal of efficiency for electronic equipment).
Through Procel Reluz, public lighting systems are installed in municipalities, with financial savings for city halls and increased safety for the population. At Procel Educação, the topic of energy efficiency is presented to different age groups, focusing not only on school contexts, but also on students' daily lives.
The Procel Seal provides inputs so that equipment is purchased not only based on the price of the product, but also based on its energy efficiency, which directly influences the monthly cost of the electricity bill.
In the industry sector, Procel is present through actions that promote the efficient use of energy, reducing financial and environmental costs. These actions came to fruition in 2022 through the Aliança 2.0 program and the project of thermosolar systems for the beverage industry.
Within the scope of promoting energy efficiency projects, there is the FGEnergia program, in partnership with BNDES, which offers financial guarantee to micro, small and medium-sized companies to contract financing for their projects.
Procel is a program that aims to encourage the rational use of electrical energy and was established in 1985 by the Ministries of Mines and Energy and Industry and Commerce. After 37 years under state management, this month Eletrobras transferred the executive secretariat of the program to Empresa Brasileira de Participações em Energia Nuclear e Binacional (ENBPar), as recommended in Law 14.182/21.
“The MME, as coordinator of the Electric Energy Conservation Coordinating Group (GCCE) and president of the Energy Efficiency Management Committee (CGEE), the Program's governance bodies, has monitored and supported this process, seeking to maintain the connection between interested parties , and acting to ensure its alignment with government standards and guidelines, with a focus on the continued good performance of the program”, says the MME in a note.

Energy efficiency is a 10. I believe that generating your own energy is still much, much more efficient than any efficiency program. It's a score of 1000. Generating your own energy brings many more benefits than energy efficiency. The problem is that we still have to pay for the use of the grid so that the poor do not pay for the energy that the rich generate. I leave you with some questions: Why doesn't efficiency pay a subsidy to the poor too? Why is there no BNDS financing for those who want to produce more energy and further improve all the benefits for the population, the country and the planet? Why have these benefits not yet been valued by the competent bodies? I believe it is not interesting for the captive consumer to free themselves. Time to start installing and updating existing photovoltaic generation systems in hybrid or even isolated systems.
