Shell Brasil registered, last Thursday (24), a request for granting to ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) to implement three photovoltaic solar plants in the municipality of Brasilândia de Minas (MG).
This will be the company's first direct investment in renewable generation in Brazil. Shell is the second largest Brazilian oil producer, being responsible for 11,83% of the total produced.
The company's initiative takes place in the midst of the oil crisis and follows the movement of giants in the oil and gas sector who are investing resources in renewable assets around the world, such as wind and solar farms.
With the enormous potential for generating renewable energy, such as solar and wind, Brazil has been the destination for this type of investment. Proof of this is the initiative of other oil companies, such as Equinor and Total, which already have renewable energy projects in the country.
