The Belo Horizonte City Council approved in first reading the 234 / 2025 Billwhich authorizes the installation of solar energy systems in schools within the municipal network.

The initiative aims not only to reduce electricity costs, but also to encourage sustainability and promote environmental education in schools.

The proposal received broad support, with 38 votes in favor and none against. It prioritizes schools located in areas of greater socioeconomic vulnerability and high energy consumption.

In addition to the installation of photovoltaic systems, the project includes environmental awareness initiatives, involving students, teachers, and the school community in promoting solar energy as a renewable alternative.

Another important aspect of the proposal is the continuous monitoring of the installed systems. The Executive Branch will be responsible for ensuring technical oversight and performance evaluation of the units.

If the system generates surplus energy, it will be possible to resell it to the electricity utility, with the funds raised being used to modernize the schools.

The project, which is undergoing amendments before a final vote, could be definitively approved soon, bringing a new phase of modernization and sustainability to the education system in Belo Horizonte.

The proposal will still undergo a second vote in the relevant committees before returning to the plenary for final approval.
