The Heineken Green Energy Program ended 2023 with more than 30 active contracts to promote access to renewable energy for bars, restaurants, and their customers. Since its launch, the program has already generated savings of R$ 2 million for registered participants and prevented the emission of 2 million tons of CO2. The initiative is part of the company's strategic plan to be net zero across the entire value chain by 2040. To date, the states with the highest number of contracts signed are Santa Catarina, Paraná, Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul. The program's goal is to capture 50% of the points of sale in 19 capitals of the country by 2030. The program is available to residents of Minas Gerais, Goiás, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Ceará, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Rio Grande do Norte, Bahia, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Piauí, Espírito Santo, Tocantins, Maranhão, and São Paulo (Interior and Coastal areas - CPFL Paulista). “The program is one of the ways we have found to bring our clients and consumers to the center of the conversation and the care that we all, as a society, need to adopt to mitigate environmental impacts as much as possible,” said Mauro Homem, vice president of sustainability and corporate affairs at the Heineken Group. What is the Heineken program? The program, a result of a partnership between Heineken and the energy companies responsible for its management - Grupo Ultragaz, Raízen Power and MOE (My Own Energy) - aims to facilitate access to renewable energy for individuals and businesses, providing discounts of up to 20% on electricity bills for individuals, bars and restaurants. It began in 2021, when partner bars and restaurants started to have access to 100 MW of solar and wind power generation. Retail outlets can register for free through the Heineken Green Energy platform to join the project. To register, the consumer must register 100% digitally, accessing the platform, with CNPJ/CPF and a photo or copy of the energy bill. Participation is free and, to access the benefit, the user must prove the average monthly value of R$200,00 on their energy bill. After joining the program, the estimated period for conversion and supply of green energy is 120 days. In addition to the program being free of fees, there is no loyalty on the part of the consumer, who is free to withdraw from the program at any time. How does clean energy reach homes and establishments? The discount is possible thanks to energy compensation made by the energy companies Grupo Ultragaz, Raízen Power and MOE (My Own Energy). Through plants using renewable sources such as solar, wind, biomass and biogas, an energy load is generated in the generators, which direct it to the local distributor, responsible for connecting with the addresses registered in the Program. "Therefore, the use of these energies generates energy credits that are converted into discounts on the consumer's bill." When the distribution concessionaire receives energy from a generating company, it reduces the need to obtain energy from traditional sources”, explains Beatrice Jordão, senior marketing manager at Heineken in Brazil.
