The strong storm that hit Caxias do Sul (RS) in the early hours of this Wednesday (29) caused material damage to the facilities of the Alfredo Jaconi Stadium and, mainly, to the CFAC (Athletes and Citizens Training Center) of the Juventude Sports Club.

According to the club, the most significant damage was concentrated at the training center. The dugouts of fields 1 and 2 were practically destroyed, while the synthetic turf suffered damage to its lateral structure.

Broken windows were also reported in the administrative area, along with damage to fences, access gates, awnings, advertising signs, and roofs, as well as the fall of several trees in different parts of the complex.

In one of the images released by the club, the roof where the photovoltaic system is installed is visible. [The text then abruptly shifts to a different topic:] Sought by Canal Solar, Juventude reported that it is still conducting a full assessment of the damages and that, for now, it is not possible to confirm whether the installation was affected.

"We are still assessing the damage. Apparently, there was no damage, at least visually speaking (to the photovoltaic modules). Now, with the resumption of normal operations, we will know if there was any damage that compromised the full use of the system," the club reported.

At the Alfredo Jaconi Stadium, the storm caused damage to part of the VIP box area, advertising boards, and tore the flag installed on the main flagpole. "Fortunately, the damage recorded was only material. The club is already conducting a full assessment of the damage and is working to restore the affected areas as quickly as possible," Juventude stated.

Technical inspection

Although the photovoltaic modules do not show visible damage, this is not enough to rule out possible damage to the system after a severe weather event. According to electrical engineer Yanael Medeiros, from CS ConsultingOnly a technical inspection can determine if the installation has been compromised.

“In addition to evaluating the panels, it is recommended to check the mounting structure, cables, connectors, inverters, and other electrical components, since impacts caused by strong winds, falling objects, or vibrations can compromise the operation of the installation without leaving apparent damage,” she said.
