Vivo opened, in Nova Cruz (RN), its first distributed generation plant in the state. Built in partnership with the Gera Group, the project is installed on an area of eight hectares and is expected to generate 4,905 GWh per year.

The energy generated will supply the consumption of more than 320 units of the Living, such as stores, offices, antennas and transmission equipment, located in the concession area served by the distributor.

According to Living, during the construction stage, 65 jobs were created. In the operational phase, there are five permanent jobs.

Caio Guimarães, director of Heritage at Vivo, pointed out that the benefits of installing the plant extend to the community, companies and the planet, with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

“In addition to contributing to the environment, as it is renewable and low impact, distributed energy generation relieves the distribution system and generates savings, being an important initiative for Vivo in the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) pillars”, highlighted.

The initiative is part of Vivo's strategy to expand its own production of energy from renewable sources. Of the 85 plants in the distributed generation program planned by the company for all of Brazil, 22 are already in operation, in different regions of the country and with different partners, producing energy from solar, hydro or biogas sources.

According to the company, Vivo's DG (distributed generation) production of energy in Brazil will account for 89% of low voltage consumption, serving more than 30 thousand company units across the country, producing around 711 thousand MWh annually.
