Blackout 2023
On December 15, 2023, several regions of Brazil, especially in the North, Northeast and Southeast, faced power outages. Cities such as Fortaleza (CE), Teresina (PI), Salvador (BA), São Paulo (SP), Belo Horizonte (MG) and Santa Catarina (SC) were impacted.
In a statement, the ONS reported that a failure in the North/Southeast interconnection caused the interruption, affecting 16 thousand MW of load. The restoration of energy has begun, and the causes of the incident continue to be investigated by the responsible bodies.
