Amazon announced a new investment program that will channel $2 billion into startups developing sustainable technologies across multiple sectors. Called the Climate Pledge Fund, the initiative will allow the company to achieve its goal of neutralizing carbon emissions by 2040.
“The Climate Pledge Fund will seek to invest in the visionary entrepreneurs and innovators who are building products and services to help companies reduce their carbon impact and operate more sustainably,” Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said in a press release.
According to Bezos, companies from all over the world will be considered in the program, from areas related to transportation, energy generation and storage, to food and agriculture industries. “Each investment will be evaluated for its potential to accelerate the path to zero carbon and help protect the planet for future generations,” he concluded.
In May, as reported by Canal Solar, the Amazon announced five new renewable projects in China, Australia and the United States, which will total 615 MW of installed capacity. When completed, they will provide around 1,2 million MWh of additional energy for the company's operations.
