A ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) confirmed this Friday (25) that the tariff flag will be green in October, after five consecutive months of yellow flag. With the change, there will be no additional charge for the flag on consumers' electricity bills next month.
The green flag was last in effect in April. From May to September, the ANEEL The yellow flag remained in effect, adding R$ 1,885 for every 100 kWh consumed.
According to the Agency, the increase in rainfall in the South and Southeast regions, during the transition between the dry and wet seasons, helped to stabilize the levels of hydroelectric reservoirs.
The green flag indicates more favorable generation conditions and eliminates the additional charge levied by the flag system. However, this does not mean that the total bill will be the same for all consumers: the bill also depends on energy consumption and the tariffs applicable to each distributor.
How do tariff flags work?
Created in 2015 by ANEELThe tariff flag system aims to signal to consumers the cost of electricity generation in the country.
Monthly, the ONS (National Electric System Operator) evaluates the operating conditions of the SIN (National Interconnected System), defines the dispatch strategy for power plants, and estimates the costs of energy generation.
Based on this information, the tariff flags are defined. When the flag is green, there is no additional charge on the electricity bill. Yellow and red flags, however, indicate increased generation costs and result in extra charges for consumers.
Currently, the additional costs are:
Green flag: no additional charge
Yellow flag: an additional R$ 1,885 for every 100 kWh consumed;
Red flag level 1: additional charge of R$ 4,46 for every 100 kWh consumed;
Red flag level 2: additional charge of R$ 7,87 for every 100 kWh
