A ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) approved, this Tuesday (19), the 2022 annual tariff adjustment for Enel Distribution Ceará – company that supplies electricity to just over 3,8 million consumer units in the state.

The measure will increase the electricity bill average for Ceará residents at around 24,85% as of next Friday (22).

The Agency justified that the increase is due to the “withdrawal of financial components established in the last tariff process, in addition to costs with sectoral charges and expenses related to energy distribution and purchase activities”, he highlighted, in a note.

Approved percentage increases

  • 23,99% for residential properties with low consumption

  • 24,16% for high voltage consumers with high energy demands, such as industries

  • 25,09% for low voltage consumers, generally homes and small businesses

The measure taken by ANEEL occurs a week after the Federal Government announced the end of the flag water scarcity – which, between the months of September 2021 and April 2022, increased Brazilians' electricity bills by around 20%.

In its place, the return of the green flag was announced, reducing, since April 16th, the extra energy charge of R$14,20 for each kWh consumed to zero until the end of this year.

According to the Federal Government, the volume of rain recorded since the end of last year and the current situation of the main Brazilian reservoirs allowed the Union to make the decision without the possibility of risks of shortages occurring in the country, as happened in 2021.

At the time, the country was on the verge of an energy collapse due to the greater water crisis of the last 91 years and the low level of reservoirs.
