Throughout August, the ANEEL The Brazilian Electric Energy Agency (Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica) is conducting a special inspection operation at thermal power plants considered strategic for serving the SIN (National Interconnected System). The goal is to ensure reliable power supply in the second half of the year, especially during the dry season.
According to the agency, all thermoelectric operators were notified in July about the possibility of being called for availability tests, to be coordinated by the National Electric System Operator (ONS). During these tests, the selected plants must operate at full load for at least four hours on the established dates.
The initiative aims to strengthen energy security during a period of lower rainfall, which runs from May to November. According to the ANEEL, ONS studies indicate the need to activate thermoelectric plants in the coming months to meet demand during peak hours, between late afternoon and early evening.
During testing, the ANEEL verifies the consistency of the operational information submitted annually by plants to the ONS, such as synchronization time, load ramp, and generation availability. If discrepancies are identified between the declared data and actual performance, the plant will be subject to a partial unavailability assessment process until it proves its generation capacity as reported to the Operator.
